The Flowers Are Ready, Come And Paint Them

Blossoming artists with a yen for floral portraits can learn from an expert each Wednesday this month in the perfect setting: Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden.

From 2 to 4 p.m. today, and Aug. 13, 20 and 27, those who would like to create their own masterpieces can come to the visitor center where supplies are provided for free public use, including pencils, crayons and oil pastels. (The garden is at the mauka end of Luluku Road in Kaneohe.)

Artists of all ages are welcome to settle in at the courtyard garden to paint the scenery, or to sit indoors to paint floral arrangements. Attendees also are encouraged to bring their own supplies.

Longtime Windward art stalwart Kathryn Rone also will be at the garden on those Wednesdays to meet and offer tips to aspiring artists.

Her work also is on display this month in the garden’s Lecture Room Gallery. Rone is a charter school art teacher and frequently exhibits her botanical paintings at Windward venues.
