Fishpond Interns: Apply Now

Paepae o He’eia is looking for six nature-minded young adults who would like to spend their summer restoring He’eia Fishpond.

The internships run from June 2 to July 25 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to noon each day. Participants will spend time learning about the requirements of maintaining an ahupua’a, including fishpond, stream and loi restoration; aquaculture, and native plant identification and propagation.

There also will be classes on place names, native and non-native plant and animal species, and cultural sites in Ko’olaupoko.

Interns will receive $9 per hour for their time.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply, and preference will be given to those between 16 and 24. Interns must be available for the entire duration of the internship. College enrollment is not required.

Applications should be postmarked by May 16 to be considered. Interviews will be conducted the week of May 19, and the selected interns will be notified by May 23.
