Fireworks Permits At City Halls

The Honolulu Fire Department reminds West Oahu residents that the deadline is Dec. 21 for firecracker permits, which cost $25 each and can be obtained at satellite city halls – not fire stations.

Honolulu’s fireworks ordinance requires that permits must be in hand “no less than 10 days before they are used,” and the firecrackers may only be set off between 9 p.m. Dec. 31 and 1 a.m. Jan. 1. Each permit allows the purchase of up to 5,000 firecrackers from licensed retailers only.

All other forms of fireworks, such as fountains and sparklers, are illegal. HFD also advises residents that “the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend one of the public displays conducted by trained professionals.” For more information, call Capt. Terry Seelig at 723-7117.
