Encore For WCC Bon Dance, Autumn Fest

Windward Community College will host its 2013 Autumn Festival and Bon Dance from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday in front of the Hale La'akea Library Learning Commons, featuring dance lessons, tours, food and an art exhibit as well as the dancing itself at 6 p.m. Last year's happy crowd (above) guaranteed the repeat event. Windward Community College is planning its second autumn festival and bon dance from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday on the mall at the entrance to the Hale La’akea Library Learning Commons.

“It was so much fun last year that folks are asking that we do it again,” said Bonnie Beatson, public relations director for the college.

On the agenda are:

4 p.m. – Bon dance lessons for beginners, history talks, tours of the library and medicinal bio-processing garden

4 to 7 p.m. – A manga art exhibit in Gallery ‘Iolani

5 p.m. – Food booths open with obon season favorites such as saimin, teri burger and chicken, shoyu plates, baked goods, andagi and shave ice.

6 to 9 p.m. – Kaneohe Sukiyaki Bon Dance group leads the dancing with live music by Young Okinawans of Hawaii and a lion dance by its Shishi Mai club.
