Dedicated To Better Mental Health
BRITT YOUNG, owner of Xplor Counseling LLC
“I can barely get out of bed — I’m so unmotivated to do anything.”
“I don’t know why I’m so scared, even to go outside. I used to be fine.”
“My marriage is falling apart — we’ve had too much time together, and, these days, our problems are worse than ever.”
When the phone rings at Xplor Counseling LLC, some version of these complaints are often on the other end, and they’re often accompanied by the message that help is needed — now.
Experts say the lack of control and unpredictability that are hallmarks of the coronavirus pandemic have exacerbated mental health symptoms that may have been previously manageable. Add to that financial stress, job losses and grief over losing loved ones — and those who always considered themselves mentally stable are starting to feel wobbly at best. The latest survey from Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that 80% of those surveyed reported at least one mental health symptom since the pandemic started. For those under the age of 19, that number was 90%. Yes, that’s just about everyone.
When I founded Xplor Counseling LLC in 2016, it was a solo practice. But, within one year, I was on a three-month waitlist and found myself losing sleep, mortified that I couldn’t help everyone who needed it. That’s when Xplor Counseling LLC, in its current form, was born. We now have more than 25 licensed mental health clinicians and staff, four offices across O‘ahu, and a commitment to serve our community when you need us, where you need us and how you need us. Our clinicians’ areas of expertise range from depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD and trauma to grief, couples, play therapy, co-parenting therapy, medication management and more.
Better yet, until the coronavirus crisis, we never had a waitlist, which meant you could get an appointment near your home that week, even the same day. We know that crises don’t wait three months — they need attention now. Alongside my outstanding colleagues, I can say with pride that Xplor Counseling LLC is on the frontlines of this mental health pandemic, supporting and guiding our clients toward a better life and relationships — whatever it takes.
