Allison Izu Song, Summer Shiigi and Rumi Murakami
One year ago this month, designers Allison Izu Song and Summer Shiigi partnered to form The Cut Collective, an innovative company dedicated to helping other local designers and businesses reach their goals by offering the resources and skills needed in streamlining the design and production process.
“Our hope is to transform the local manufacturing industry to be the most affordable, innovative option that will provide high-quality made-in-Hawaii products to support the local economy,” explains Shiigi. “We also strive to uplift the industry by offering mentorship and consulting to designers.”

Song is the owner/designer of Allison Izu, a clothing company focusing on the petite woman. She also recently started a family line called Love & Aloha for men, women and children. Shiigi, a freelance fashion stylist, is the owner of Summer Style Hawaii. She also has a newly launched brand called Ten Tomorrow.
Located in Manoa (at 2800 Woodlawn Drive, Suite 192), The Cut Collective also serves as a fashion incubator workspace for designers, such as Rumi Murakami, whose womenswear line consists of tailored modern pieces.
Fashions by all three designers also can be found at various events throughout the island. The next one is Kakaako’s A Pinch of Salt Holiday Pop Up Sunday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 445 Cooke St.
“We are incredibly dedicated to the local industry and offering services that weren’t previously available under one roof,” adds Shiigi, noting they currently have three recent University of Hawaii graduates developing their fashion lines at The Cut Collective. “There is so much talent here in Hawaii, and we truly believe that it’s a great time to be creative.”
