Creative Art Exploding At Kaimuki Explorium

Kaimuki’s creative keiki core -the Art Explorium – will mark its first anniversary from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 15 with a film and still more creative activities for area youngsters.

The program officially kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with the short film Caine’s Arcade, an inspirational movie about a boy who spends his summer building an elaborate arcade in his father’s used auto parts store. Following the screening, children can build their own arcade games out of cardboard and other materials.

“We are so thankful,” said executive director Heather Williams, “for all the community support we’ve received over the past year in developing a fun, safe space for children to discover their creative potential.”

Art Explorium offers workshops for a fee to students age 5 and older, supported by primarily reused items, such as corks, buttons and bottle caps, as source materials. This month’s classes, for example, cover dance painting, clay, Thanksgiving decorations and Japanese enameling.

The studio also is active in Kaimuki Third Fridays (including Nov. 15) and hosts birthday parties, drop-in art adventures and more at 1142 Koko Head Ave. For more information, call 312-4316.
