Conference’s Leading Scorer Cites Teammates For His Success

Waialua guard Xavier Repollo may set the pace for the Bulldog boys basketball team, but he does so while maintaining a team-first mind-set.

“My teammates help me get open, and they help me to score,” said Repollo, who is currently the OIA White’s leading scorer at 16 points per game. “My coaches push me in practice and help me improve, and they help me correct my mistakes for the next game.”

Only a junior, Repollo also has been a consistent performer to date, scoring right around his average, except for a 6-point night against Division I Pearl City. He also had a memorable outing versus Waipahu, scoring a season-high 25 in a 64-60 win Jan. 16.

Repollo and the team currently are in the midst of a key stretch on their schedule as the OIA playoffs approach. Repollo recently took some time away from the basketball court to visit with MidWeek‘s Central Oahu Islander.

What is your earliest sports-related memory? I started playing basketball when I was 6. I was a little shy then, and I had to practice more to get better and keep improving. I played a lot in outside leagues, and my dad put me in clinics all around the island.

Who has had the biggest impact on your life? It would be my dad.

He was like a coach, and he supports me at my games and put me into clinics when I was a kid.

How would you assess Waialua’s season so far? Our team is coming along. There’s a lot to improve on, but we’re doing pretty good. We need to start playing together more.

Is there a player who inspires you? Koa Lagapa. Before every game, he inspires us to do our best, and he goes hard at everything we do.

What website do you go to the most? YouTube – to watch videos of cool plays from the NBA.

What item could you not live without? Probably a basketball.

What is in your iPod? (Rapper) Kendrick Lamar. I like the underground rap kind of stuff.

Do you play video games? What game systems do you have? I have an Xbox360. Call of Duty and NBA 2K13 are my favorites.

What is your least favorite household chore? Cleaning up after the dogs.

What part of your individual game will you try to work on this off-season? My shooting. I wanted to be better. I’ve improved.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Hopefully, I’ll be in the NBA.

You’re stuck on Kahoolawe and can have only one food. What would it be? Chicken.

Who would be your celebrity date for the junior/senior prom? I like the Alabama quarter-back’s (AJ McCarron) girlfriend (former Miss Alabama Catherine Webb).
