City’s Transit Meeting Tonight At Kapolei Hale

The city will conduct a public meeting on its Short Range Transit Service Operations Plan at 7 tonight (March 28) in conference room A at Kapolei Hale, 1000 Uluohia St.

Nelson/Nygaard Consulting Associates seeks comments from area residents about how to improve the effectiveness of TheBus and TheHandi-van. Considerations for West Oahu include the following:

* Kapolei – Possible bus route through Ko Olina, the temporary Haumea and proposed East Kapolei transit centers, effect of large planned Hawaiian Home Lands’ housing and retail development, possible Mililani-Kapolei route

* Waipahu – Transit center design, impact of light rail on bus service, VA supplemental service, Handi-Van mid-day shuttles, Route 432 problems

* Leeward Community College – Congestion on Route 73 when classes let out, better bus stop access

Also under review: Do feeder plans for the rail system dovetail with current service; the ongoing the debate about relocating bus stops.

Comments also may be sent to srtsop@honolulu.gov. The plan will guide future surface transit changes in the next six years.
