City Offers Conservation Grant

The City Council’s Clean Water and Natural Lands Commission has funds to support land acquisition on Oahu for conservations purposes, and it’s taking applications now through Sept. 4.

Proposed projects may seek preservation through purchase of fee title or conservation easements of forests, beaches, coastal areas and agricultural lands. According to commission chairwoman Jean Campbell, the group also will consider factors such as the degree of urgency, financial support from other sources, and how the project relates to the city’s fiscal priorities.

City Council Chairman Ernie Martin said nine awards have gone to exceptional projects in the past. Windward awardees include Senator Fong’s Plantation, Kahuku Mauka Agricultural Lands and Maunawila Heiau in Koolauloa.
