Church Opens Leeward Branch

Unitarian Universalist Leeward Ohana Group officially launches its Leeward UU Campus Sept. 13 at Island Pacific Academy.

Beginning at 5 p.m. and appropriately themed “Celebration,” the evening includes a sermon by Dr. Jonipher Kupono Kwong, minister at First Unitarian Church of Honolulu. Titled “Come, Come, Whoever You Are,” the service’s theme is “acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations.”

Church pianist Dennis Graue will provide music, as will Kapolei Chorale, directed by Doris Dudley, and the night concludes with a potluck.

Leeward Unitarian Universalists initially began holding monthly meetings in private homes a couple of years ago. As the group began to grow, a decision was made to begin regular services.

Services at Island Pacific Academy usually take place on the second Saturday of each month with a 5 p.m. sermon and 6 p.m. potluck.

Island Pacific Academy is located at 909 Haumea St.
