‘CAN’struction

The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter, presented its eighth annual CANstruction competition recently at Pearlridge Center. This year’s theme, “Wonders of the World,” was inspired by the goal of helping to end global hunger one can at a time. Thirteen teams of local architects, builders and allied design and engineering professionals gathered to “canstruct” giant structures made entirely of thousands of cans of food. Members of the public were encouraged to participate by bringing canned food donations, with each can of donated food equaling one vote toward the People’s Choice Award winner. Upon “decanstruction” the canned food was donated to the Hawaii Foodbank.
