We All Can Be ‘Cooking Hawaiian Style’

Lanai Tabura, host and producer of the popular Cooking Hawaiian Style on OC16 TV and my colleague here at MidWeek, is a talented radio disc jockey, actor, host of special events and comedian. He has interviewed Hollywood stars including Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, Queen Latifah and Boyz II Men, to name just a few, and appeared on numerous television shows.

Lanai, his brother Adam Tabura and Shawn Felipe won Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race, season 4, with their food truck Aloha Plate.

Adding to his many other accomplishments, Lanai and executive producer of the show Frank Abraham have a great new cookbook out titled Cooking Hawaiian Style: Ohana Recipes from Lanai and Friends.

Just in time for Christmas gift giving, the cookbook features recipes from the well-known celebrities and chefs who have been on the show, along with their interesting and entertaining stories. Many of the recipes have been handed down from generation to generation and family to family. The full-color photos of mouthwatering dishes such as Ramen Burger, Okazuya Style Chow Fun, Fresh Ahi Pasta and Seared Poke and Lilikoi are sure to tempt anyone to get in the kitchen and start cooking.

Here’s an easy and delec-table recipe from chef Adam Tabura, who has been a guest on the show and shares many of his own recipes in the book. Chef Adam has cooked for many celebrities and at resorts including Koele Lodge on Lanai and Westin Maui.

Christmas is next week, and this colorful dish is great to serve friends and family dropping in for the holidays! Merry Christmas!

CHEF ADAM TABURA’S OPAKAPAKA SASHIMI

• 4 ounces fresh opakapaka, sliced sashimi-style
• 1 tomato, diced
• 2 fresh garlic cloves, minced
• 4 to 6 green onions, sliced

Slice fish sashimi-style, sprinkle tomatoes on fish. Top sashimi with dressing and sweet chili oil, fresh garlic and green onions.

For Dressing:

• 1 teaspoon sesame oil
• 1 teaspoon peanut oil
• pinch Hawaiian salt
• dash sweet chili oil

Mix oils and salt.
