A Place For Culture And Celebration

D. KEOLA LLOYD, director of Lanikūhonua Cultural Institute and senior vice president and corporate secretary with James Campbell Co. LLC

Lanikūhonua is an oceanfront gem, green and lush with meticulously landscaped grounds within Ko Olina along the dramatic Wai‘anae Coast. Once the home of Alice Kamokila Campbell, daughter of James and Abigail Campbell, Lanikūhonua has a history as a retreat for royalty, a respite for World War II service members, and later, following her wishes, as a place where Hawaiian culture is practiced and promoted through the Lanikūhonua Cultural Institute.

Lanikūhonua translates as “where heaven meets the earth.” Culture defines Lanikūhonua, which has sponsored Hawaiian studies programs for elementary and middle school students, the Lei O Lanikūhonua Hula Festival for high school students, and the mele and hula at Lanikūhonua summer concert series featuring island music and dance. This was pre-COVID, which placed these programs on hiatus.

Lanikūhonua is also used for paid engagements like weddings, corporate gatherings, and community and family events that meet current state and City & County of Honolulu guidelines.

The good news is that Lanikūhonua is the perfect place for small, intimate affairs. Here, romance need not take a backseat to COVID.
