Surfers Ride Waves Up The Crater

Oahu surfers plan to prepare for International Surfing Day (June 20) by cleaning up Diamond Head from 10 to 11:45 a.m. on June 17.

The Oahu chapter of the Surfrider Foundation sponsors the Pu’u Leahi cleanup, which begins with registration at 9:45 a.m. at the crater lookout. A thank-you party will follow at Tiki’s Bar and Grill in Waikiki, starting around noon.

The foundation also will man an information booth June 20 in front of Whole Foods Kahala, where live entertainment is planned, and 5 percent of the store’s sales that day will go to the group.

“Surfers across the world will be coming together June 20 to both celebrate the sport of surfing and to give something back to the oceans, waves and beaches that give us all so much,” said Tim Tybuszewski, co-chairman of the Oahu chapter.
