Doug Izak Wins A $150 Spree At Fooland

On Wednesday, Doug Izak wanted to make a Caesar salad for dinner, so he took a trip to Foodland in Kailua to buy organic croutons and romaine lettuce. As he left the store at 5:30 p.m., MidWeek’s representative approached Doug with a simple question. He answered correctly and instantly won a $150 Foodland shopping spree.

“I started coming to this Foodland many years ago, about 30 years ago,” said this week’s Mystery Shopper, a retired business owner. “I always loved this Foodland, and there are still some people here from the original Kailua Foodland (before it was renovated). I also like its senior discount.”

Originally from Michigan, Doug moved to Hawaii in 1975 and used to own Gee…A Deli in Kailua. In his free time, he enjoys working on his aquarium and fish ponds. He also likes to read MidWeek.

“I always immediately go to the front and see what the Gossip is, and then the next page for the Poll question and people’s answers,” he said. “I also like Weird News. I read everything, and I love the supermarket ad inserts.”
