Filipino Community Center has teamed up with University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Hawaii (UPAAH) to ponder what “I Value …” — in the form of a special gallery of 15 photographs from seven alumni.

The inaugural exhibit — which also celebrates Filipino-American History Month — runs through Nov. 29 in the third-floor gallery at FilCom Center, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

“I Value …” hosted an opening reception Oct. 26, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, poetry reading and musical performance by Pintig Himig.

UP alumni could submit up to five photos for consideration for the exhibit, which seeks to reflect on community values and celebrate the accessibility of digital photography.

“In sharing the images with the public, UPAAH hopes that members of the community can also confidently open up about what they personally value in life,” stated Carolyn

Weygan-Hildebrand, one of the featured photographers and former president of UPAAH. “Our individual values often guide our actions. Our shared individual values motivate what we protect and support as a community. It is hoped that we will all continue to enjoy capturing images with the cameras that we have.”

Exhibitors include CJ Ancheta, Nieva Elizaga, Imelda Fines Gasmen, Jun Gappe, Joy Marfil and Giovanni Sabio.

Jurors Tim Llena, Dennis Bondocoy and Kit Zulueta selected the photos.
