More Windward Groups Open Their Imu Pits

As Thanksgiving approaches, more nonprofit groups have stepped up to offer their imu pits for the national feast day as well as to support good causes.

The latest fundraisers are planned by a Kahaluu church and a Kailua hula halau.

* St. John’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church welcomes turkeys (or other meat roasts) from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 26. The roasts must be pre-seasoned, in an oven bag and standard-sized foil pan. Fee is $15 per item, and pick-up time is 9 to 10 a.m Nov. 27. Proceeds go St. John’s outreach and facilities. The church is located at 47-074 Lihikai Drive. * Halau Ha’a Hula ‘O Kekau’ilani Na Pua Hala o Kailua welcomes turkeys or other meats from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Nov. 26 at Waimanalo Village Community Center, 41-552 Mo’ole St. (near Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School). Place thawed, well-wrapped meat in an aluminum pan and wrap entire pan in foil. Pickup time is 7 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 27, and orders are due by Nov. 19 to 561-6252. Fee is $15, and proceeds will support the halau’s participation in the 2015 Queen Emma Festival on Kauai.
