Place For Everything Around The Waist

FlipBelt is my latest marathon-training buddy.

Granted, it’s not a tech product, but it holds my tech stuff while I’m running. When I’m out for longer runs, the biggest challenge is where to put everything — phone, keys, money, ID, etc. Previously, I was using a running belt with a pouch, but it can get a little bulky after shoving everything in there, and it bounces around when you’re on a run.

With its 360-degree design, FlipBelt has four slits in it so you can slip things in around your waist. I like this design since I can load-balance my belt with my iPhone, small snacks, car key and money. I compare this to a hip fanny-pack. Because of the bright colors it comes in, you can wear it on the outside, almost as a reflector belt. Of course, it comes in regular conservative colors too, but I chose the bright pink one so I can make myself more visible at night. I’ve only been using it a couple weeks, but have no complaints — the biggest question is how long it will last. But it seems durable, so I think it will last a while.

The material is so thin you can wear it hidden underneath your clothing. Unfortunately, it’s not waterproof, so if you sweat profusely, your FlipBelt may soak through and your items may get wet, too. It comes in different sizes, so you can get the one that’s the most snug on you for no chaffing. Since there are no snaps, you pull it up like a pair of pants or shorts and, of course, you can fit just about whatever you want in there, as long as it can stretch and fit to your shape comfortably. And it’s very comfortable. I wish I would have thought of this!

FlipBelt is available locally at HISportfly and Brookstone, or online at FlipBelt.com for $28.99. * Click Chick’s Mobile App of the Week: First Prez

What can I say? I go to a great church — First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Ko’olau — and now there’s an app for that! One of the first things I noticed about this church when I first attended it a few years ago (other than the great keiki programs) was Wi-Fi. Now it has an app I can access on my iPhone.

“The First Prez app is all about giving people accessibility, wherever they are, to what our church can offer them: sermon video, audio or text, the

Bible, a Bible-reading plan, the First Press website, newsletter and social media sites,” explains Pastor Dan Chun. “The app is one of the tools we use to help people connect with God.”

The app is perfect for me, since I don’t always make it to church with my busy schedule and working some weekends. I can listen to the sermons while driving (very relaxing) and read the newsletter from it. Of course it’s free and available on iOS, Android or Windows Phone.
