Robot Roves Into Kahala Mall

A Roving Robot is coming to Kahala Mall from 3 to 7 p.m. April 13, bringing a hands-on dimension to modern surgical techniques.

Sponsored by The Queen’s Medical Center to showcase a variety of its surgical procedures, the robot offers a “video game-like” understanding of how Queen’s surgeons use robotic skills for minimally invasive operations, resulting in fewer complications and faster recover times.

The exhibit also includes a virtual surgery contest (in which visitors can test-drive the robot), a name-the-robot contest and the opportunity to talk with the real doctors and nurses who use the technology.

Robots currently play a role in prostate and uro-logical surgeries, hysterectomies and other gynecologic procedures, heart valve repair, heart bypass, weight-loss operations and surgeries involving lungs, gastrointestinal and esophageal tracts.
