Aug. 31 marked the end of an era for Kahala Shell Auto Care Inc., as it said goodbye to longtime owner Madeleine Snow, who is retiring ahead of plans from Kamehameha Schools to demolish and rebuild the station.

Kamehameha Schools, which owns the property on Waialae Avenue near Kahala Mall, intends to redevelop the area in 2016, with the future Kahala Shell location serving only as a gas station. Kahala Shell preemptively closed its auto repair and service center Aug. 1, and Snow also decided to retire once her current lease term ended.

Snow, who has worked for Shell for 34 years, took over from previous owner Bill Green in 2000. Both were honored with the Golden Nozzle award — which recognizes owners of high-performing Shell stations — from Aloha Petroleum CEO Richard Parry.

Aloha Petroleum Ltd. will operate the station until it is forced to close for demolition.
