West’s Rail Project Road Closures Continue

Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation recently announced some new road closures related to the rail transit project. Road closures are as follows:

* Farrington Highway in Ewa between Kualakai Parkway and Old Fort Weaver Road is now closed in both directions until April of 2014 to allow for utility relocation and column work. Motorists traveling between East Kapolei and Ewa/Waipahu may use either the H-1 Freeway on the north end of Kualakai Parkway, or Kapolei Parkway on the south end. The westbound direction of that section of Farrington Highway currently is closed.

* The inside lanes of Kamehameha Highway in Pearl City between Kuleana Road and the HECO-Waiau power plant also are closed in both directions until mid-December. Workers are conducting utility relocation and drill shaft test work. Two westbound and eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway will remain open. Left turns from Kamehameha Highway into the Diamond Head-end entrance of the Waiau power plant will be restricted.

HART advises drivers to proceed with caution through these areas and warns that there could be possible traffic delays. It recommends that drivers use alternate routes during work hours and allow for a safe distance between themselves and the workers and equipment.
