Ken explained that MMA and pankration are governed by the World Athlima Pangration Federation and International Federation of the Associated Fights.

“Unlike any other MMA club, our program focuses on the seamless transitions in all the ranges of combat into a unique system of mixed martial arts and self-defense called total defense system,” he explained. “We are currently scouting local talent to represent Team Hawaii MMA and Team Hawaii Pankration to compete in national and world competitions.

“MMA is the fastest growing sport in history and has its sights set on becoming a recognized Olympic sport through pankration.”

While MMA might seem a sport deemed for adult competitors, United

MMA seeks to promote a family-friendly learning environment.

The children’s classes (for ages 7 and older) are 5 to 6 p.m., Monday-Thursday. In fact, the Lees’ children, Angela (16), Christian (14), Victoria (8) and Adrian (7) all are seasoned fighters and national champions.

There also are classes for teens and adults (13 and older) from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

Students of all ages can participate in open mat training from 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays.
