Family Gardening Night Oct. 19

Area families are invited to join “Get Down & Dirty Gardening” from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at Ben Parker Elementary School.

The evening program will be packed with resources, exhibits, games and activities designed to green-up everyone’s thumbs.

Sponsored by Kaneohe Community and Family Center in partnership with 21st Century Learning Center, Windward District PCNC and Kaneohe Kiwanis, the latest Family Activity Night offers tips and hands-on lessons in hydroponic systems, worm castings, aquaculture, spices, good and bad insects, container gardening and sprouts.

Free plants and cuttings also will be available.

A cooking contest also is planned, and participants must submit entry forms at kcfc.pacthawaii.org By Oct. 11. Contestants should bring a salad or entree of their choice and provide a copy of their recipe — using at least two products that they grow at home.

Non-perishable food also is welcome for the Baskets of Blessings food drive. For more information, call 247-7747 or email kcfc@pacthawaii.org.
