A Place Where Past Meets Present

DR. PAULINE KOREYASU Kaka‘ako Pet Hospital owner, doctor of veterinary medicine Over almost 33 years of practicing veterinary medicine, so much has changed. After a life-threatening event prevented me from practicing medicine for over six months, I am so grateful to be alive and again able to practice veterinary medicine the way we do at Kaka‘ako Pet Hospital.

Fifty years ago, veterinary medicine was practiced out of the veterinarian’s house in the neighborhood. The veterinarian knew the families who lived nearby and all their pets by name. That was where your family pet went to get care. We felt like family there, too. Times changed. Veterinarians moved out of the neighborhoods and into commercial spaces.

That feeling of family and friendship is something I think all of us still want. We designed, built and opened our hospital in December 2010 to give you that feeling. Many clients tell us that when they pull off Queen Street into Kaka‘ako Pet Hospital, the design and cheery yellow paint reminds them of a home. That feeling is why families from all over O‘ahu choose to bring us their amazing furry, feathered, scaled and shelled family members.

The team members of Kaka‘ako Pet Hospital and their furry friends happily gather in front of the building.

Over the years, medicine has changed, too. Innovation has improved vaccines, and there is blood work that can detect diseases earlier and immunotherapies that can help those itchy dogs. We embrace those changes and technology like digital X-rays, ultrasound, endoscopy and pet dentistry to improve pets’ lives. We even have our own app to request appointments, get refills and earn loyalty stamps to get credit on your account. We opened a “cat only” room with a separate entrance and have more planned for 2020.

With all those innovations, how we treat you when you come into our hospital is most important to us. We work hard to bring back that family experience. We still sit down and talk story and will hold your hand when you have to say goodbye to a precious family member. If you want all the good of the past combined with the innovations of the present, come visit us. We are here to make you a part of our Kaka‘ako Pet Hospital family!
