Lions Salute Military History

Waialua Lions Club is inviting the public to celebrate North Shore military history Sunday at its 67th annual Memorial Day Celebration at Haleiwa Beach Park.

Guest speaker is Col. Ronald Han (Ret.), a 28-year U.S. Air Force veteran, who will discuss the achievements of area residents who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam – including in the famed 442 Regimental Combat Team, the 100th Infantry Battalion and the Military Intelligence Service. Han currently serves as the state director of Veterans Services at Tripler Army Medical Center.

In addition to the lecture, the celebration will feature a concert by the Waialua High School Band, a posting of the colors by the U.S. Army and Civil Air Patrol, a salute to fallen service members, a tribute to parents, family and friends of North Shore veterans, and the presentation of wreaths by members of the 442/100th Infantry Battalion and veterans groups.

In addition, the Lions will pay tribute to the late Rev. Ron Valenciana and his wife, Alexia, for their longstanding support of the Memorial Day celebration.
