Hundreds of agile youths will stream into Le Jardin Academy’s gymnasium this weekend for the Aloha Gymfest.

Hosted by the Kokokahi Gymnastics Team of Kaneohe, the annual competition is a sanctioned USA Gymnastics meet with about 350 gymnasts on 28 teams expected – from Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Guam, Canada, the U.S. Mainland and Hawaii.

The program begins at 2:30 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Kailua school campus, located at 977 Kalanianaole Hwy. (the old Kailua Drive-in site above Kapaa Quarry Road). The top-level gymnasts will perform at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to watch the young multinational talent in action, and admission varies from $15 to $4 per person, with no charge for keiki under age 5.

Now in its 37th year, the Aloha Gymfest is one of the longest, continuously held gymnastics meets in the country, organized and staffed by Kokokahi parents and other volunteers. The Kokokahi gym is located off of Kamehameha Highway between Yamashiro’s and King Nissan. For more information, call 235-6866.
