Kapolei Rings In Year Of Snake

Kapolei Commons wishes you a Kung Hee Fat Choy and invites you to ring in the Year of the Snake at its Chinese New Year celebration at 10 a.m. Jan. 26 in its parking lot near Ross and Verizon Wireless.

The event will feature a lion and dragon dance performance, along with a martial arts demonstration by the Chinese Lion Dance Association. It is believed that the dancing, along with the sounds of drums and cymbals, can ward off evil spirits. Red envelopes will be passed out during the celebration for attendees to fill with money and feed to the lion for good luck. Per custom, the amount of money in the envelope should be an even number.

Construction began on Kapolei Commons in 2009, and tenants still are joining the shopping center. New businesses slated to open in the first quarter of the year include Kua Aina, Ramen Ya and Sally Beauty. Kapolei Commons is located at 4450 Kapolei Parkway.
