‘Kanikapila In Kailua’ Saturday

The music of award-winning group Kaiholu will launch the 2013 Kanikapila concert series at 4 p.m. Saturday at Kailua Town Center’s parking garage.

“Showcasing the wonderful Hawaiian music of Kaiholu is a great way to kick off a new year of Kanikapila in Kailua,” said Terry George, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Harold K.L.

Castle Foundation, which is marking 50 years of grant-making in 2013.

“During our special anniversary year, we will again feature some of the best-loved Hawaiian musicians.”

The band, which is composed of Hanale Kaanapu, Trax Enos, Al Rowland Jr. and Mahealani Stillman, took first place in the 2009 Ka Himeni Ana competition (unamplified harmony).

The free concert lasts until 5:30 p.m., and residents are welcome to bring their own chairs and mats to enjoy the monthly program.
