March of Dimes Receives $50,000

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, businessman and former Honolulu City Councilman John Henry Felix (center) contributed $50,000 to March of Dimes, earmarked for research to uncover the causes of premature birth. “My Sainted Mother, Melinda Pacheco Felix Freitas, introduced me to March of Dimes in 1938 when I accompanied her as we went door to door collecting dimes when they were battling polio that was ravaging countless children and adults,” notes Felix. “March of Dimes became the only agency to find a cure for the disease it set out to end.” Pictured with Felix are Carmella Hernandez, executive director, March of Dimes Hawai‘i; and Dave Kennedy, chief revenue officer, O‘ahu Publications Inc.
