Free Trees Nov. 3 At Urban Garden

Arbor Day is back, and Hawaiian Electric Co. is ready with 2,700 trees to give away at six Oahu locations, starting at 7 a.m. Nov. 3 – one plant per family while supplies last.

In West Oahu, certified arborists and volunteers will assist in picking the best plant for residents’ needs, as well as share tips on their care and how to keep their branches out of overhead power lines. The nearest Arbor Day Hawaii giveaway sites are the Urban Garden Center in Pearl City or HECO’s Kahe Power Plant on Farrington Highway. (The garden center also conducts its annual plant sale that day.)

The event encourages citizens across the nation to plant, nurture and celebrate trees, and HECO will add three new varieties to this year’s stock of native trees and shrubs: the Aimee Yoshioka gardenia, the munroidendron and the red sealing wax palm.
