Food Drive Saturday At Windward City

Windward residents have a convenient place to donate food this weekend in Hawaii Foodbank’s final push to restock its shelves to feed the state’s hungriest citizens.

The 24th annual food drive runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Windward City Shopping Center and seven other collection hubs on the island. It’s the charity’s largest fundraiser of the year, and the goal is to provide 1 million meals in the form of canned goods and monetary donations. (Oahu fire stations accept donated items all month long.)

Most welcome are meats, meals, fruits, soups and vegetables – all canned. According to Hawaii Foodbank, it also can transform a $10 donation into 25 meals. Last year the nonprofit assisted 183,500 people with food donations across the state.
