Conservation Groups Recycling

Hui o Koolaupoko and Oahu Resource Conservation and Development Council will collect residents’ discards from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m Jan. 11 at Waimanalo Beach Park.

The annual drive accepts cell phones, computers and electronics, batteries, tires (limit 4, no rims), scrap metal, HI-5 containers, plastics, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, cooking oil, TV sets (limit 1), phone books, magazines, newspaper, cardboard, golf balls, foam packing, clothing and household items (for Goodwill), food items for Hawaii Foodbank, and used eyeglasses and hearing aids (Lions clubs). Not acceptable: microwaves, hazardous fluids, paints, green waste.

Residents also may exchange incandescent light bulbs for CFLs at the site.

Proceeds from recycler payments will be used to support Waimanalo environmental programs. Local businesses are providing in-kind donations and funds to offset costs of the drive.
