Adult Education Hanging On At Kalaheo

The state Department of Education still offers adult classes for Windward Oahu residents at Kalaheo High School, but with budget cuts, it’s now under the banner of Waipahu Community School for Adults/Windward Campus.

Registration for spring semester ends today (Jan. 16), and students should present a valid photo ID at the time they sign up. The Kalaheo High office is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday during the registration period. The basic enrollment fee is now $20 per class. For online registration, visit winsa.k12.hi.us.

A variety of adult basic education classes are planned, as well as literacy, GED prep, online learning and special interest topics, such as seamanship, computer basics, cooking, Hawaiian language, piano, ukulele and hula.

Academic classes start Jan. 28, and special interest classes start Feb. 11 – depending on enrollment – and are overseen by principal John Vannatta and vice principal Mark Tanji.
