Children are asked to create their own three-dimen- sional garden creatures with recycled materials. The contest is open to all kids in the age group categories of 3-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17. July 20 is the deadline to submit entries.

SATURDAY, JULY 2
• CELEBRATION A Fourth of July celebration willbeheldfrom4to9 p.m. at the Hukilau Market- place at Polynesian Cultural Center in Lā‘ie. It will fea- ture carnival games, food, a concert and fireworks. Visit hukilaumarketplace.com.
All artwork entries need to be submitted to Ho‘omaluhia Visitor Center office and accompanied with a story card — typed or in written legibly. Entries will be displayed at the visitor center until Aug. 30.

City masking guidelines will be followed. Attendees can help the shelter animals by shopping for a large va- riety of housewares, plants, toys, clothes (most are priced at $1), shoes, jewel- ry, towels, bedding, lamps, books, DVDs and more. Keiki Art Contest Will Honor Ho‘omaluhia
• FREEDOM The Free- dom Run/Walk will be held at 7 a.m. around Enchanted Lake in Kailua. Participants will gather for the race at the Kailua High School gym. It will raise funds to support epilepsy awareness efforts. Participants can run or walk as individuals or a team, and there will be prizes. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden in Kāne‘ohe, a fun art contest for keiki has been created.
It is designed to recognize the artistic talent and cre- ativity of kids in appreciating plants and the role of gar- den critters, like frogs, butterflies, bees, spiders, lady- bugs, etc. in nature’s fragile environment.
Awards and prizes will be given to winners in each of the five age categories based on overall presentation, environmental message, creativity and originality.
