Youthful Kailua Boxer Rises As Part Of A Gym With A Winning Tradition

ermo, a former winner of multi- ple world championships out of Wai‘anae, and even roomed with Brian Viloria back in 1999 as they prepared for the 2000 Olympics together before Viloria went on to become a professional title-win- ning boxer.
“We encourage, discipline, mo- tivate and prepare kids to be bet- ter members of society,” he adds.
When Mark died in February 2019, Lyndon moved the opera- tion to Pearl City Industrial Park shortly thereafter to continue Mark’s tradition at a centralized location.
“And, we’ve been building kids into national champions!”
The gym is a family affair for Lyndon, as the coach’s five chil- dren help make up a talented stable of established and up-and- coming boxers.
“Carrying on his legacy, Mark was a friend of mine and we were dedicated to coaching the kids,” says Lyndon, who works in the construction industry. “Our gym is open to those who need and want self-discipline in their lives. We’ve built it as a family, and de- veloped a trust with the coaches and those who train here.”
“Over the years, I learned a lot about more than just boxing,” says Lyndon, who encourages those interested in joining the gym to come by and talk with him. “Without boxing, I would have been a much different per- son. And, it taught me life les- sons.
Shera Mae Patricio, his eldest daughter, is ranked No. 1 in the nation as a Team USA elite com- petitor, and daughter Sheelyn Patricio is ranked No. 1 in the country as a junior with Team USA. His sons Lorenzo Patricio (ranked No. 1 with Team USA’s junior ranks), Lyndon Patricio Jr. (ranked No. 6 nationally as a youth competitor) and Leighton Patricio (ranked second in the country as a bantamweight) are also successful products of Aiwo- hi Athletics.
As a lifelong boxing enthusiast, Lyndon has built an impressive résumé as a boxer.
“We teach our kids to respect their parents and the community, so it’s more than just fighting and becoming a national champion. It’s about preparing for their fu- tures. Life is tough, and we want them to grow up and contribute to their communities.”
