t’s called The Attic, but you’ll find it conveniently on the ground floor of Pōhai Nani.
“Most of our inventory is donated by res- idents or those who know about us,” says Carolyn Wilkinson, who manages the store.
“We carry jewelry, clothing, kitchenware and small appliances, glassware, and often many beautiful things from our residents’ many travels around the world.”
The pandemic kept the thrift shop closed for months, and in January, it reopened to the residential community. As of two weeks ago, The Attic is now also open to the gen- eral public, with social distancing protocols in place.
Keeping things in order is Ellie Katz; she stands at the doorway, answering questions for passersby and monitoring the space’s ca- pacity — it can accept six masked customers at a time.
“They needed someone to act as a bounc- er, so I check to make sure people have masks,” she explains.
