He‘eia State Park Receives Some Much-needed Sprucing Up
The pandemic has affect- ed many sites, including at Heʻeia State Park along Kāneʻohe Bay. Managed by Kamaʻāina Kids, a local nonprofit, the park usually provides services in ecotour- ism to fund its maintenance. Kamaʻaina Kids digital me- dia specialist Kelsea Lickert says in March 2020, every- thing changed, making up- keep of the park challenging.
“Ray was a great guy. When I think about what he accomplished, and how much he did for the islands during his life, I am truly humbled,” Medus states. “I know he cared for Heʻeia, as do I. Ray helped support my business for a decade and all of us at Starfarms are grate- ful for that. This is a small ʻthank you’ to his legacy, and what he has left behind. I could not imagine not put- ting this together, especially under these circumstances. We are very happy his fam- ily and staff allowed me to put this together.”
Owner of Starfarms Ser- vices, Michael Medus, was in talks with friend Ray Sanborn on how his compa- ny could support the park’s maintenance when Sanborn died suddenly in 2020. Now, Medus is donating more than $20,000 worth of services to the park, and other commu- nity organizations assisted him on March 22, as well.
Lickert hopes for addi- tional community assistance. For more information, call Medus at 342-4228 or email him at starfarmsha-
