It’s hard to be- lieve “ocktober” is coming to an end, but the surf nev- er came to an end so far this month. We had so many swells for both town and country. We recently came off a 6-foot north swell, then another similar sized north-northwest swell hit mid-month. There was only a one-day break before a high surf advisory episode on Oct. 17.

The October Surf Scene Really ‘Rocks’ This Year
In other surf news, the 45th Annual North Shore Mene- hune Surfing Championships provided so much fun and had waves the whole time. In addition, mahalo to my good friend “Banzai” Betty Depolito for always being there to capture the action photos. The 3- to 12-year- old Menehune shredders have a variety of skill levels and ambitions. Some of the youth want to be profession- als someday, while most just want to have fun and be a part of the action.
I lived near Alligator Rock and was out at the bay almost every time it broke. When it got really serious and big — like 25 feet and up — that’s when guys like Bradshaw would shine. I won’t be surprised if Zoe someday charges Waimea Bay and tows into a few outer reef bombs.
This is a regional quali- fying contest worth 1,000 points.
