Hayami opened up shop in Kapolei. Now, all Oʻahu Chuck E. Cheeses are about 10 miles apart, making it an accessible family center for the entire island.
“From a family stand- point, management with relatives makes things go smoother and avoids con- flicting purposes,” he shares. “It’s a great job for my chil- dren, but it also means hard work, too. I am very proud of our family, and my goal is to leave them with a fun and prosperous business to run in the future.”
“We specialize in birth- day parties and a place mothers or fathers can take a break while their kids run around and have a blast,” says Hayami. “The concept started in the 1980s and has been very successful nationally in the U.S. and internationally around the world. COVID protection and safety are controlled and monitored with nation- al standards created by the franchise having over 500 locations throughout the U.S.”
“Parents can sit down without their kids running out the door,” says Hayami.
“I started looking in 2008 and, unfortunately, that’s when there was a financial crisis,” he shares about opening his Haumea Street store. “That was 10 years ago when I started looking into Kapolei and I, and ev- erybody, thought it was the future. But in 2008, every- thing completely stopped. Then, finally, in 2015, we ... were able to open a store there and it was something that we could own the land and the building, rather than lease in town.”
“The fulfilling part is the kids,” he says about what he loves most about his job. “You see all these kids with a big smile on their face. We have a live show and they come up and dance with the characters. The most important part is to see the kids and how happy they are.
Currently open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, Chuck E. Cheese is best known for its pizza, games and live en- tertainment for keiki ages 2-10. Fun fact: Each loca- tion has a different show
With safety top of mind, Chuck E. Cheese also im- plements a protocol where a child can’t leave the build- ing without the parent they walked in with. In the past,
“If you ever see any kids who have been to a Chuck E. Cheese, they’ re not going to say they had a bad time,” he smiles.
