6 MIDWEEK MAY 24, 2023
How do leaders eat and talk during a professional business lunch? How do they introduce someone in front of a crowd? How do they assess needs and take meaningful action?
Guided by the organi- zation’s founding values — character, competence, critical-thinking, community and courage — students meet bi-monthly as well as partic- ipate in several retreats with their peers to learn valuable leadership lessons. In addi- tion, they meet community leaders and receive person- alized leadership coaching, taking their leadership to the next level. Frequent guest speakers include Colbert Matsumoto of Island Hold- ings, Creighton Arita of Ike Hawai‘i, Connie Lau, Kel- vin Taketa and others. Projects are inspiring, tackling prob- lems like homelessness, lack of economic diversity and others. In 2015, a group of students crowdfunded more than $20,000 to install a pho- tovoltaic airconditioning unit in a hot classroom at James Campbell High School. In 2019, Fellows hosted round- table discussions around din- ner, purposefully bringing

With programs like the CTL Fellows, as well as other impactful programs, we are all doing our part to pre- pare for the future by prepar- ing our future leaders. In total, Center for Tomorrow’s Lead- ers works with close to 700 young people a year driving with our mission of engaging, equipping and empowering young leaders for Hawai‘i.
