HONOLULU COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Passion for fashion lives on at Honolulu Com- munity College’s Fashion Technology Pro- gram. There, students learn the basics of clothing construction, industrial sewing, pattern making, textiles, textile art, fashion sketching and design, computerized grading and marker making. Many local designers have emerged from the pro- gram, including Manuheali‘i, Ari South, Kini Zamora, Jay Sario and Lexbreezy, to name a few.
According to Reise Kochi, HCC’s fashion show pro- duction lecturer, the program began around a century ago when the community college was known as the
Territorial Trade School. In the mid-195

conference rooms into theater and showroom spaces.”
The video was filmed on Hickam Air Force Base which, as Kochi puts it, gives viewers access to a side of the island they
probably wouldn’t get to see otherwise.
“Collections will debut on secluded beaches to deserted war
bunkers; locations will be unique and fresh to the viewers,” he says.
“Along with our screening, we will have a showroom show- casing the students’ work on live models and mannequins. We will have a silent auction with merchandise from Kini Zamora, Ari South, Tori Richard, Reyn Spooner, Lexbreezy, M33Ms,
Island Boy Shop and CYC By Chris Ching.”
