Lucky To Be Rescued From Car Troubles
  Dear Darah,
I was stuck in the back roads of Māʻili not knowing what was wrong with my 2006 Toyota Taco- ma. I called an automotive re- pair place and they said they don’t go out that way. Along comes this old car with two people inside. The lady asks me if I need help. I say, “Can you fix cars?” She says yes.
as well. While they were fixing my battery, Terry took me to O’Reilly Auto Parts in Nānākuli to purchase a new battery. I was blessed by this couple, and my husband and his friend. The aloha spirit is alive and well in Māʻili!

What an awesome story! It’s the spontaneous things that often bring us together with kind people when we least expect it.
Doug and Patrick were so nice; we were more than happy to help. I will say we are the lucky ones to have met them. We have been in Hawai‘i for 45 years and spent many of them on Wai‘anae Coast. As it turns out, her hus- band has fixed cars for 70- plus years and they were home builders. They moved to the Wai‘anae Coast about three years ago and love it. My husband, Doug, and his hardworking friend, Patrick Tuzon, came to my rescue
Dear Lily,
Dear Darah,
got out of his car and lifted the hood. A good Samaritan stopped and tried to jump the battery with his own cables, but apparently more was re- quired to solve the problem. Shortly after, a utility van from Herc Rentals stopped behind the white van and as- sisted in getting it started. It
was heartwarming to witness good people helping one an-
I’m sure a lot of kind acts go unrecognized in our state every day, so it’s
