When Strangers Step Forward To Help
 Dear Nancy,
What a “sweet” story! Danielle made a lot of people very happy this Christmas and I would also like to echo your sen- timents to her of good for- tune, blessings and peace. Thank you, Danielle, for being so thoughtful and generous.
Dear Darah,
One morning while I was at Kapi‘olani Coffee Shop in Waimalu, a stranger bought my breakfast. He stood behind me, I put my order in (actually two or- ders) and when he went up to the window, he told the girl, “I got her breakfast, too.” OMG! He told me, “Merry Christmas!”
Thank you very much to this complete stranger. He was a workman, drove a white Toyota pickup with a second cab. I was so shocked! All I could say was thank you and Merry Christmas! Blessings to him and his family.
Joan Yoshida ‘Aiea
Dear Joan,
What a beautiful Christ- mas blessing for you! What’s so great about it is it’s a gift that can be bestowed upon anyone all year round. How great it would be if we all prac- ticed the kindness this gentleman demonstrat- ed.
Dear Darah,
to have to get a new one. The Taj Clubhouse man- ager says they are very happy they could help and are thankful you were saved any inconvenience or worry.
Is there someone you’d like to thank? Mail letters to MidWeek c/o Mahalo Nui at 500 Ala Moana Blvd. Ste. 7-500, Honolulu HI 96813, or email mahalonuiwithda- rah@gmail.com. Include your name, where on the island you reside, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of the person you’ re thanking so she can contact him or her. Darah Dung hosts “The Pet Hui” and “Island Driver,” both on Spectrum OC16.
 Dear Darah,
I want to give a shoutout and a big mahalo to Danielle, who was shopping at Longs Drugs Ala Moana the day before Christmas Eve. When I got to Longs to pick up some frozen Holi pies on sale, there were only three left. So, I grabbed two of them, and was relieved I was in time for all to enjoy the dessert at the family Christmas party. When I was ready to pay, I reached for my wallet, but it wasn’t there. So, I asked the ca- shier if she could hold the pies for me while I ran back to our apartment across the
street to retrieve my wal- let. The cashier politely said, “Sorry, no.” Watching this scene and listening to my predicament was Dan- ielle, a complete stranger to me. Without hesitation, she whipped out her credit card and said, “I’ ll pay for it.” Those were expensive pies! My protests were to no avail. Truly, she was an angel sent to bless me and my family this Christmas.
I would like to share my thanks to the employees at Taj Clubhouse for finding and sending my Hawai‘i driver’s license that was found near their store. They were kind enough to mail my ID card to my home and I felt so much relief when I got my card back as I was mostly paranoid of identity theft.
To Danielle, may you have a gratifying and en- riching 2023. Happy New Year from a very blessed senior citizen!
I am thankful that cute local store took their busy time to take care of fellow kama‘aina. Mahalo Nui!
