Grateful For Big, Small Acts Of Kindness
took the time to nourish your mind, body and soul.
Dear Darah,
  Dear Darah,
I want to share the experience we had the other night. We are in our 70s and decided to have a date night by visiting the high-end Safeway store in Waikele. We were at the checkout count- er behind a customer who seemed to be taking a long time completing his trans- action. The cashier started ringing up our items despite his presence. When she pro- cessed all of our items, the man shook my husband’s hand and waved goodbye to me. The cashier then informed us that he had just paid for all of our groceries. Probably af- ter seeing some of our gour-

met items, she asked him if it was enough, but he told her to do it all.
On Wednesday, Nov. 9, at about 6:20 a.m. at the corner of Kapi‘olani Boulevard and Cooke Street (mauka side by the bus stop), I thought I dropped something but didn’t see anything. I was about to walk on when I realized a key had fallen off from my key ring. I tried looking for it in the dark and asked a young man if he had seen a key.
Blessings come in all shapes and sizes, and of- ten when we least expect it. How fortunate you are to have this gentleman see you through what could have been a very inconvenient situation. Thank you for taking the time to recognize this anonymous angel.
Mail letters to MidWeek c/o Mahalo Nui at 500 Ala Moa- na Blvd. Ste. 7-500, Honolulu HI 96813, or email mahalo- nuiwithdarah@gmail.com. Include your name, where on the island you reside, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of the person you’ re thanking so she can contact him or her.
We were shocked and sad that we did not adequately thank him. I’ ve read about these kind, generous gestures of paying it forward but never thought it would strike home and actually happen to us. It shocked me in a positive way to realize that kindness is a silent but powerful force that can counteract the abundance of negativity that invades our lives. We have the ability to counteract it by actively pro- moting kindness and doing good deeds every day. Thank you again to that kind and generous man who gave me a
valuable lesson in life by his example.
Dear Carol and Rome,
Blessings come in all shapes and sizes, and often when we least expect it.
I also want to thank you, Darah, and MidWeek, for hav- ing the “Mahalo Nui” forum that allows us to express our appreciation for acts of kind- ness. It truly is an important public service that proves and reminds us that aloha is alive in the world.
What a beautiful and generous blessing this gen- tleman is. I, too, have heard of this happening to people, and I think it is just won- derful. In my family, one of our biggest love languages is food. Feeding someone and providing them with nour- ishment is one of the best ways to show you care. Ma- halo nui to this anonymous stranger who generously
With his sharp eyes, he found it. Unfortunately, I didn’t get his name. Mahalo nui loa to him.
