I had a fall accident on Queen and Cooke streets on Aug. 1 around 6:20 p.m.
I have no memory of how it happened. The only thing I remember was that I started to cross Queen Street toward the mauka side when the light turned green. After that, I was standing on the other side of Queen Street and was surrounded by some people. They asked if I was OK and if I needed an ambulance. They told me that I had fallen. At that time, I was dazed and very confused. I had no idea what had happened. I was in pain but was able to walk, so I told them I didn’t need an ambulance. After I got home, I realized the right side of my face and body were swollen. I went to see my doctor the next morning and he diag- nosed me with syncope. He ordered X-rays and some tests. Thank God the injuries were not serious.
I am very grateful for the people who had stopped to help when I fell. At that moment, I was in shock and didn’t thank them. I also forgot to ask them what they

The manager called the ambulance and I went to The Queen’s Medical Cen- ter – West O‘ahu. The EMT, doctors and nurses made my visit very pleasant. I was im- pressed with their profession- alism. I want to send my ma- halo nui to those people that helped me. I am very grateful to all of them.
Lily Wong Honolulu
Dear Lily,
I hope you are doing well and recovering from this fall. A big mahalo nui to these gentle souls who sur- rounded you to give com- fort in such a time of uncer- tainty. I believe it is human nature to help those in need when we are faced with the opportunity. I believe that the people of Hawai‘i have that extra aloha to care for others, and I am reassured each time I receive a letter praising the wonderful he- roes who come to the res- cue daily. Please take care of yourself and stay healthy.
