• scratch paper, for making your pattern*
• pen/pencil, for tracing
• sewing pins, to hold pieces together, optional

* Note: For the pattern, fold a piece of scratch paper in half. Using the fold in the center, draw a rounded corner half triangle about 3 inches high and 1 1/2 inches at the widest point at the bottom. Cut out. This
is your “rice” pattern. Place the rice pattern on another folded scratch paper. Draw a 3/8-inch border all around to make a larger size. Trace and cut out. This is the “nori” pattern. ** Note: You can use a glue gun in place of hand sewing.

ment. Place the moving eyes or bead/ buttons onto the rice. Sew or glue down. Backstitch or draw a smile under the eyes. Backstitch with two strands of the black embroidery floss. Optional: Cut two small hearts from the red felt and stitch or glue onto the sides of the face for the cheeks.

a few extra stitches or glue at the top where the ribbon tab is to make it secure.
         7 Slip the split keyring onto the ribbon tab.
Cut a 3-inch piece of the gros-
grain ribbon for each musubi. Fold in half and place behind the top of the musubi. Take one of the remaining nori pieces and place behind, matching up the edges.
