         PUBLIC NOTICE
The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) is considering a request for Federal assistance from Hi‘ipaka, LLC to renovate buildings and erect a traditional learning hale for school groups in Waimea Valley in Hale‘iwa HI. Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), EDA is conducting an assessment of the potential of the proposed project to affect the environment and/or historic properties.
The project goal is to increase resiliency, provide a richer Hawaiian cultural visitor experience, suppor local businesses, and employ more local residents in high quality jobs. We will: (1) Renovate an old nursery area to create a Community Resource Cente for artisans and volunteers, (2) Renovate and cove the amphitheater site, (3) Renovate the Visito Center bathrooms and add a cultural exhibit section to the gift shop, and (4) New construction to create the Pu‘ukua Hale traditional learning site. This wil improve the quality of visitor experiences to Waimea Valley, allow us to hire more employees, allow us to contract with more local businesses, allow us to contract more native Hawaiian artisans, and provide better hosting of school groups to learn abou Hawaiian history and culture.
