       Tighten each ribbon to form a check- erboard design. Do not pull too tightly to distort the ribbons. They should lay nicely flat. Repeat steps 3-6 until you reach the desired length of lei. Slip the ends of the ribbon into the loop at the knot and tie together to complete the lei.
Cover knot with a bow. You can also weave the ribbon lei onto a faux maile if you want to keep the ends open.

Note: You can substitute the width and/or type of ribbon you use, which may require less or more yardage. You can test by weaving 1 yard of each color and see how long the lei piece is to figure out the yardage needed for the length of lei you want.
