4 MIDWEEK MARCH 9, 2022
            Mea Culpa
Your favorite NCAA men’s basketball team is ...
Istart this week by issuing a sincere apology to former Honolulu Star-Advertiser writer and columnist Ben Wood. If you read my column last week, I made the biggest mistake any writer could make in a newspaper.
When relating a story about Ben and how he had mistaken me for chef DK Kodama, I referred to him as being “late,” as in deceased. I had meant to say retired but was careless and put in print something that could not be immediately corrected or taken back.
I was able to contact Ben upon realizing what happened. He was gracious and understanding but of course concerned that people will think that he passed. Now 90 years old, Ben is alive and well, living his life and much-deserved retire- ment. Ben, please accept my apology, and I truly wish you a long and prosperous life. And to my readers, I also apologize and will strive to do better in the future.

More Than T Meets The Eye
here’s more than one reality going on in every situation you encounter. For example, people on social media curate their feed to only show
what they want you to see. People that meet each oth- er for the first time show what they deem to be their “appropriate” persona.
Even though we know this, it’s natural to negatively judge what we see. As such, it’s wise to keep top of mind that the unseen exists behind the veil of the seen. Doing so saves us from putting ourselves at a disadvantage by jumping to distorted truth based on our assumptions.
Since everything we see and experience is a part of life’s bigger picture, remember that everything within life is a necessary part of this picture, and judging it serves no positive purpose.
